This policy explains what personal information we collect, how we use it, who processes it on our behalf, and what rights you have over it.
Who we are
knownbug is operated by Knownbug Ltd (company number 17087487), registered in England & Wales with registered office at 320 Firecrest Court, Warrington, United Kingdom, WA1 1RG. We are the “data controller” for personal information processed through the Service under the UK GDPR. You can reach us at hello@knownbug.app.
Information we collect
- Account — email address, display name, and profile photo, provided when you create an account or sign in with Google.
- Content — posts, comments, images, voice notes, observation logs, plans, reminders, and bug reports that you submit through the site.
- Location (optional) — if you grant browser location permission, your latitude and longitude are used to centre the sky view and fetch local weather. Stored coarsened to roughly the nearest city.
- Technical — IP address (used for region detection and per-IP rate limiting), browser user agent (captured when you file a bug report), and standard server logs.
- Analytics — aggregated visit counts and page views via Google Analytics, only if you consent on the cookie banner.
How we use it
- Service delivery — render your sky view, store your content, and deliver the reminders you set up.
- Communications — transactional emails for the reminders you create. We do not send marketing email.
- Safety and integrity — automated content moderation flags posts and images that may violate our guidelines; abuse reports filed by other users help us investigate.
- Diagnostics — bug reports include the user agent you submit so we can reproduce browser-specific issues.
Third parties we rely on
We use industry-standard providers to host and process content on our behalf. Each receives only what it needs to perform its task.
- Google Cloud — hosting, storage, and infrastructure.
- Firebase — authentication and push notifications.
- Resend — sending reminder emails.
- OpenAI — moderation of post text; chat assistant if you use the AI feature.
- Google Vision — moderation of post images.
- OpenWeatherMap — local weather forecasts.
- Google Analytics — aggregate traffic measurement (only with your consent).
We do not sell or trade your personal information.
Retention
- Account data, posts, recordings, and other content remain until you delete the item or your account.
- Server logs and rate-limit counters are typically discarded within 30 days.
- The weather cache holds rounded city-level data for up to 4 hours per location.
- Analytics data is retained per Google’s defaults (currently 14 months) when consent has been given.
Your rights
- Access & portability — download a copy of your personal data in machine-readable JSON form via the Export your data control on your profile. Available once per day.
- Correction — update incorrect information from your profile settings, or by contacting us.
- Deletion — delete your posts and recordings from the app yourself, or contact us to delete your account in full.
- Withdraw consent — change your cookie preference at any time by clearing browser storage for our site, which will re-show the banner.
Children
The Service is not intended for users under 16. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 16. If we learn an account belongs to a person under 16, we will close it and delete the associated data.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top reflects the most recent change. Significant changes will be highlighted on the site.
